Producing an online event for Espoo Day 

Due to the ongoing coronavirus situation, Espoo Day will also feature virtual online events this year. Online events can be produced in one of two ways; as videos recorded in advance or as live broadcasts. Before you start recording a video or streaming a live broadcast, please make sure that your phone/laptop battery is charged, and your phone is connected to a sufficiently fast mobile or WiFi network for the duration of the live broadcast. 

Videos for the Espoo Day YouTube channel  

Record your video in advance and submit it to us via a cloud service (such as Google DriveDropbox etc.) by sending an e-mail to the address We will upload submitted content to the Espoo Day YouTube channel, and will publish it on Espoo Day, 28 August. 

You can record your video using a phone, computer webcam, tablet or video camera. YouTube supports most common video formats, check a detailed list to make sure your format is supported. 

Your video will remain available on the Espoo Day YouTube channel for 30 days, after which it will be deleted. Your video will not be published on any other channels. Please make sure that you have the consent of every identifiable person appearing in your video. We reserve the right to decide whether to publish your video or not. 

Producing a live event 

You can broadcast a live event on Espoo Day using Facebook Live or Instagram Live, for example. Create a Facebook event for your live broadcast in advance and add the Espoo Day profile as the event’s co-host. 

You can live stream using your phone, computer webcam or tablet. Please make sure that your device’s battery is fully charged or connected to a power supply and that the device is connected to a sufficiently fast mobile or WiFi connection for the duration of the live broadcast. To prevent interruptions, we recommend putting your phone in airplane mode for the duration of your live broadcast. When broadcasting live on your computer, Facebook recommends using the Google Chrome browser. 

Instructions for broadcasting live on Facebook 

Live lets you live stream events, performances and gatherings on Facebook. Viewers can watch from a phone, computer or connected TV. You can go live on Facebook from a profile, Page, group or event. 

 You can start broadcasting live to a Facebook page as follows: 

  1. Go to your Page.
  2. Click Live next to Create.
  3. In the left menu, select whether you’d like to Go Live Now or Schedule a Live Video for a future time and date.
  4. Add a title and description to your live video. Here you can also check in to a location or add a feeling or activity.
  5. Click Go Live in the bottom left.

Instructions for broadcasting live on Instagram 

You can also live stream using Instagram’s live function. In this case, you will also need to first create a Facebook event in accordance with the instructions above, detailing via which Instagram account and at what time your live event will be available to watch. 

You can start broadcasting live on Instagram as follows: 

  1. Tap  in the top left of Feed or swipe right from anywhere in Feed.
  2. Scroll to Live at the bottom of the screen, then tap. 
  3. The number of viewers appears at the top of the screen and comments appear at the bottom.
  4. You can add a comment by tapping Comment at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Tap a comment and tap Pin Comment to pin it so that viewers can see it more easily.
  6. When you’re done, tap End in the top right then tap to confirm. From there, you can tap  in the top left to save it to your camera roll, or share it to IGTV.

Performance notification to Teosto 

The event organiser is responsible for submitting the notifications required by the authorities for the event. Performance notifications for any music performed at the Espoo Day event must be submitted to Teosto by 31 October. Instructions for submitting the notification are available at Teosto website 

Be sure to mention in your performance notification that your event is part of Espoo Day organised by the City of Espoo.
